HighLevel AI Studio: What It Builds and What It Costs
AI Studio is HighLevel's prompt-based builder. You describe a page, a site or a booking flow, and it drafts one inside your HighLevel account. You then refine it by chatting, by clicking on the preview, or in code. This guide covers what it builds, how forms and calendars connect to your CRM, how publishing works, what you can export, and what it costs for agency users and client sub-accounts.
Quick take:
- AI Studio builds websites, landing pages and interactive experiences such as multi-step surveys, branded forms and booking flows from a prompt, template, URL or image.
- Forms and calendars aren't connected automatically. You ask AI Studio to connect them, and then submissions land in your sub-account.
- Agency users on the $97, $297 and $497 plans get AI Studio at no extra cost, subject to fair use. Sub-account users pay per use or through an AI Employee plan.
What AI Studio is (and what it isn't)
HighLevel describes AI Studio as "a conversational, AI-powered builder that helps you turn ideas into working digital experiences faster." It can generate layouts, copy, images and multi-page projects from one prompt. If you don't supply images, it can generate visuals for hero sections and supporting areas.
It isn't the same thing as Agent Studio. HighLevel is clear that these are two separate tools: AI Studio builds websites, pages and web assets, while Agent Studio is a visual builder for AI agents that respond to events and automate tasks.
You'll find AI Studio in the left navigation of a sub-account. Admins can give team members either View AI Studio (read-only) or View & Manage AI Studio (full access).

What you can build
HighLevel's own examples:
- A landing page that uses a live URL as inspiration for layout and structure
- A storefront built from your uploaded brand photos
- A dashboard layout for a specific business use case
- An appointment booking page connected to your calendar
- A website with content, visuals and calls to action already in place
There are four ways to start: a prompt, a template (landing page, dashboard, ecommerce storefront, portfolio), a reference URL, or a screenshot or image. HighLevel notes that URL and image references are treated as inspiration for structure and style, "rather than an exact one-to-one copy."
If your prompt is vague, for example "build a website for my business," AI Studio may ask follow-up questions first: a color palette, a typography style, a layout direction, and the main conversion goal (book a call, sell a product, collect leads). You can answer, skip any question, or click Skip all and let it choose.
Editing: chat, visual edits and code
You're not stuck with the first draft. There are three ways to refine it:
- Chat. Ask for changes in plain words: "Change the colors to light green," "Add a Contact page," "Add a testimonial section like this screenshot."
- Visual Edits. Click elements in the live preview to change text, buttons, images, icons, colors, spacing and layout without touching code.
- Code Editor. Edit the underlying code directly for precise changes, with updates shown in real time.
Every AI-generated change creates a version. You can preview, bookmark or revert to an earlier one, which makes it safer to experiment. The preview has desktop, tablet and mobile views.
Forms, calendars and payments connect to your CRM
This is where AI Studio differs from a stand-alone site builder: the page can feed the HighLevel account you already use.
- Forms start as a layout only. When you want them to collect data, ask AI Studio to connect them (or click Connect when it prompts you). HighLevel says connected forms can create contacts, capture submissions and support workflows.
- Where submissions go: into the connected sub-account, not the AI Studio project. You'll see them in Contacts and in Sites > Forms > Submissions > External Forms.
- Workflows: there's an AI Studio Form Submitted workflow trigger, with filters for project, form, page path and domain.
- Calendars: AI Studio can find the calendars in your sub-account, ask which one to use, and connect it to a booking section.
- Payments: HighLevel's help docs say AI Studio projects can take payments using the products and prices already set up in your HighLevel account. HighLevel handles payment processing and order records.
Publishing, domains and reuse
- Publish to a preview domain first. You can't connect a custom domain until the project has been published to a preview domain.
- Custom domains can be connected from the Publish menu, or from Settings → Domains & URL Redirects → + Connect a domain → AI Studio. If you connect a root domain, you can add the
wwwversion and a redirect in the same step. - Primary URL: pick one, and the other connected URLs 301-redirect to it.
- Edits stay in draft after publishing until you publish again.
- Built-in SEO support helps with crawling and indexing, link previews (title, description, image) and a sitemap.
- Clone a project inside a sub-account or to another sub-account in your agency, with or without its chat and version history. Snapshots can package several AI Studio projects at once.
Code ownership: Git Sync and ZIP export
If you or a developer want the code outside HighLevel, there are two routes:
- Download as ZIP. Export the full project codebase, including earlier versions from history, to edit locally or host elsewhere.
- Git Sync with GitHub. HighLevel calls this "a two-way integration." Connecting a GitHub account creates a private repository for the project and pushes the first version, and changes then sync in both directions.
AI Studio also has an optional Cloud backend (database, user logins, file storage). That's covered in our AI Studio Cloud guide.
Limits to know before you start
From HighLevel's "current limitations" notes:
- AI Studio projects stay in AI Studio. They can't be moved or copied into the standard Sites, Funnels or Websites builders.
- URL and image recreation is a guide, not a pixel-perfect copy.
- Forms and calendars need a connection step before they work with your data.
Pricing: what agency users vs sub-accounts pay
HighLevel's AI Studio pricing doc says AI Studio uses usage-based pricing. How much is included depends on who you are:
| User type / plan | Included AI Studio usage |
|---|---|
| Agency admins and users ($97, $297 and $497 plans) | Free, subject to fair use |
| Sub-account users with no AI Employee plan | Not included; pay-per-use |
| AI Employee Starter ($20/month) | Standard usage (Starter is available only to agencies on the $497 plan) |
| AI Employee Growth ($50/month) | High usage |
| AI Employee Unlimited ($97/month) | Unlimited usage |
How the limits work:
- Usage is measured in rolling five-hour windows. AI Studio's allowance is separate from Ask AI's.
- When you hit an allowance, usage pauses by default. If Extra Usage is enabled, it continues at pay-per-use rates.
- Pay-per-use cost depends on the AI models, tokens, resources and actions a session uses. More pages and more refinements mean more work.
- Everything is subject to HighLevel's fair-use policy, and HighLevel says it may throttle or limit excessive use.
- Cloud hosting is billed separately from AI Studio generations.
Who AI Studio is for
It suits agencies and DIY marketers who already run on HighLevel and want pages that feed their own CRM and workflows, plus developers who want an AI first draft with real code access. If you're a local business owner who'd rather not build anything at all, see the box below.
